Profile
VINEYARD
The fruit for this wine came from the low yielding Garnacha vines of the Edwards family’s Ballingarry vineyard in Armagh. It was picked on 27 February at 13.8º Baumé.
GROWING CONDITIONS
The 2007 growing season in the Clare Valley was warm, without any excessive heat spikes. It was also a very dry season with a good rainfall during the last week of January. This had the beneficial effect of refreshing the vines and allowing the grapes to ripen fully whilst retaining their acidity.
WINEMAKING
The grapes were crushed and destemmed followed by cool fermentation in small open-top fermenters. After 48 hours sufficient colour had been extracted from the skins and the wine was gently pressed off to stainless steel vats to complete fermentation. It was then racked, stabilised and filtered prior to bottling with the entire process completed as quickly as possible to retain the characteristic crispness and freshness of this style.
WINEMAKER’S TASTING NOTES
A vibrant deep pink in colour. The nose is bursting with juicy strawberry and raspberry aromas. The lively palate is full of sweet, red berry fruits, overlaid with a cranberry lift. A crisp and crunchy finish leaves one feeling dry and refreshed.
